VESC Gives Back....
Manchas Gets a CT Scan!
Meet Manchas, the jaguar. Dr. Peter Schwarz continues to give back to the community by offering CT Scan services to the Biopark to help with the diagnosis of Manchas' back problems.
Manchas, the zoo’s male jaguar, had a CT scan performed to diagnose lower back problems at VESCNM on Thursday, April 21. A team of animal care experts from BioPark prepared the jaguar and accompanied him in transport and assisted Dr. Peter Schwarz with the procedure.
The 13-year old jaguar had exhibited differing lameness in his back legs, indicating a lower back problem. The CT scan helped confirm a diagnosis, and Manchas is now back at the zoo getting the appropriate care needed for his lower back. Thank you Dr. Schwarz!

To Africa on a Mission
Dr. Lauren Richman is off to Nairobi, Africa to deliver much needed clothing to Tunaimi, a loving home to 28 orphaned children. Tunaimi means Hope in Swahili and is a place where children can learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. A total of 127 pounds of clothing was collected from caring clinic workers! Dr. Richman is pleased to report that Southwest Airlines, which carried her from Albuquerque to Boston, also "gave" by not charging extra baggage fees. We will miss Dr. Richman during the two weeks she is gone, but we fully support her caring efforts to help those in need across our seas. To learn more about this amazing home for orphaned children, visit www.tunaimiministries.org.
